Vendor Information

Please consider being a vendor at one of the largest attended bird fairs on the east coast. The large variety of items for sale, along with our pet bird display, our huge raffle, and our professional level bird shows, make our event a one of a kind. Add to that the fact that we are located at the state fairgrounds, and we do not charge admission, our event draws a large crowd. Many of our visitors wait all year to come to our show to see the birds and shop for their feathered friends.

New this year: we are adding an additional benefit for our vendors. In addition to the free listing in our fair program, we are creating a tab on this page with the same information including links to your website and email address. This page will remain on our site until we change the vendor info in advance of the next bird fair. Therefore your business contact information will be available to all our site visitors for about one year. GENERAL RULES FOR ENTRY AND STAGING

1. All birds must be entered between 7:00 and 8:00 a.m., The day of the show

2. Caging: Only one bird may be entered per cage. Standard show cages are preferred but are not required. A few standard show cages may be available for rent @ $5.00/cage. Alternative caging should be selected with the following in mind: The cage should be just large enough, and have perches positioned so that your bird can perch erect without feathers touching the top, bottom, or sides of the cage. The floor of the cage should be covered with a layer of cockatiel seed. Avoid seed with colored dyes which may stain light-colored feathers and detract from the bird's appearance. Extraneous objects such as toys, swings, ladders, food bowls, etc. must be removed.

3. Each entry must be identified with a properly filled-out show tag and accompanied by an official entry form. The friendly show officials and/or other experienced exhibitors will be on hand to assist pet and novice entrants. Show tags and entry forms will be available at the Fair on Friday evening between 6:00 and 9:00 PM and Saturday morning until 8:00 a.m. Show tags will be $3.00/bird up to a maximum charge of $45.00 per show ($90.00 for both shows). This tag fee is the only fee for entry in the show.

4. Do not bring any cockatiel which shows any sign of illness, has been exposed to any other sick bird in your household, or which has not been in your possession for at least 45 days. Show stewards have the authority to reject any bird showing any signs of illness. Exhibitors accept all risk to their birds. Neither NCS nor RDCBS will be responsible for any damages caused by disease-exposure, injury, or escape of any bird brought to the show.

NOVICE COCKATIEL DIVISION

Eligibility and rules:

1. This is the officially recognized division for first-time or relatively new exhibitors.

2. Birds must be fully-flighted. Birds with clipped wing feathers may be eligible for entry in the pet division if otherwise eligible (see above).

3. An exhibitor may show birds in the novice division if he/she has not previously shown in the advanced division of either an NCS or ACS show. An exhibitor may elect to enter birds in the advanced division at any show, but an exhibitor who does so must continue to show in the advanced division at all future shows. There is no turning back.

4. A novice exhibitor who has placed on the top bench a minimum of three times in minor shows (16 - 50 birds and , 5 exhibitors) or two times in major shows (, 51 birds and , 7 exhibitors), under two or more different judges on, or before December 31, 2011, must graduate to the advanced division for 2012 shows. At least one of these birds must have won a Best Novice award. This rule applies only to awards won by birds which have been bred by the exhibitor.

5. Each bird entered may have a leg-band or may be unbanded. A bird entered by a novice exhibitor, but wearing the band of an advanced exhibitor, must be entered in the advanced division. Such entry is an exception to rule #3 and will not jeopardize the novice status of the exhibitor.

6. The top-ranked birds in the novice division will compete against the top-ranked advanced entries for the final top-bench awards. All novice and advanced entries, with or without legbands, will be eligible for top-bench awards.

ADVANCED COCKATIEL DIVISION

1. This division is for all exhibitors who have been there, done that, and no longer meet the aforementioned eligibility criteria for the pet division or the novice division.

RULES PERTAINING TO CHAMPIONSHIP,

GRANDCHAMPIONSHIP, AND

EXHIBITOR-OF-THE-YEAR DESIGNATIONS:

1. A bird must have a closed, traceable legband in order to be awarded points toward ultimate NCS championship or grandchampionship. For birds banded in 1996 through 2005, championship requires at least one best-in-show (BIS) award and a total of 35 or more points earned under 3 or more different judges. Grandchampionship requires at least one BIS award and 75 or more points earned under 4 or more judges.

(For birds banded in 1995 or earlier, championship does not require a BIS award and requires only 25 points under 3 or more judges. Grandchampionship requires a BIS award and 50 points under four or more judges.)

2. Points awarded to a top-bench bird will count toward NCS Exhibitor-of-the-Year designations if and only if the bird is wearing an NCS legband.

Show standards for the African Lovebird
The judging process is rewarding in itself! It highlights the points you are Breeding for, and those you wish too avoid. Watch how the judge will maneuver a bird. Use the same techniques during training next year. After each class in a section is judged, the class winners will compete for their section. When all the sections have been judged, the section winners will compete for Division awards.
1. Beak should be neat and well tucked in; head full and round; eyes centered, clear and bright.
2. Neck should be full and wide.
3. Shoulders should have no appearance of the neckline.
4. Breast should be deep, broad and well rounded, tapering gradually to the tail.
5. Back line should not be slack or hollow; almost straight.
6. Wings should be held neatly in line with the body. Flights must not droop or cross.
7. Tail should be held neatly in line with the body.
8. Legs and feet should be straight and strong.

Novice Rules & Regulations
1. Novice exhibitors are required to designate their birds by placing the Letter "N" on the top of their show tag, this will help the secretary and stewards with locating the "Best Novice" placement.
2. The Novice status will continue for the remainder of the calendar year in which a Division placement is achieved.

ALBS Approved Show Cage
1. Lovebirds are to be exhibited in ABS (American Budgerigar Society) type show cage.
2.The show cage shall be painted high gloss black on the outside, and the interior shall be shall be flat white or semi-gloss white.
3.Beginning with the 44th National Caged Bird Show, ALBS has a mandatory policy regarding lovebirds being exhibited in the ALBS Standard Show Cage at national levels (NCBS and GABS). Local shows are not required to enforce this policy. However, all ALBS members are encouraged to use approved show cages at all shows.

Show Tags
1. The show tag should be placed on the lower left side of the cage front, second bar in, on the lowest section.

Food and Water Drinkers
1. It is the exhibitor's discretion as to whether to place a drinker on their show cages during judging. ALBS prefer that its members supply their birds with water during the judging. If a drinker is used it must be the ALBS approved clear finger drinker. Tube drinkers, cups, etc., are not approved.
2. Many clubs have show rules stating all birds must have food and water at all times. When this is stated in the catalog, it must be complied with.
3. The drinkers are to be placed between the third and fourth bars from the right, above the cross bar and accessible to the bird while perching.

Food
1. It is at the exhibitor's discretion as to the type of food that will be used in the show cage. An approximate one-inch layer of parakeet seed mix on the bottom is customary. It is recommended that exhibitors not use seed mixes with brightly colored or dark oily seed, as these can soil lighter colored feathers.

Disqualifications

Multiple entries in one cage
1. The judge is required to disqualify entries with more than one exhibit, the disqualified birds will not be counted toward the total number of birds in the show.

Cleanliness
1. It is the responsibility of the owner to present the exhibit in a clean and hygienic manner and the show cage must be in good repair. Appropriate fresh food must be available at all times.
2. At the judge's discretion, any exhibit may be disqualified for failing to meet the minimum standards of cleanliness. The disqualified bird will be promptly removed and will not be counted toward the total number of birds in the show

Evidence of ownership
1. Any exhibitor that reveals ownership verbally or by other innuendo's during judging may have their bird disqualified and removed from further competition and will not be counted toward the total number of birds in the show.
2. Open cage tags are not the fault of the exhibitor. If a judge notices an open tag during judging, the judging must immediately suspended until the tag is closed by the steward. If the name of the exhibitor is seen the judge should disqualify the entry.

Permit information for Exhibitors and Vendors coming from outside North Carolina

Due to a recent decision by the NCDA the requirements for bringing exhibition birds into North Carolina have been significantly simplified.

Please read and follow these 3 easy steps.

· Call the NCDA at (919) 733-7601 to get a permit number.

· Provide the following information: Name, address, phone number, exhibition attending, and type and estimated number of birds exhibiting.

· Keep the permit number and documentation from the check in Veterinarian with you at all times while your birds are in North Carolina.
